As Free As the Bee | by Jinny Newlin

Hey, y'all!  It's Jinny here today, sharing how Sketch #302 inspired me.  I tapped into my December Citrus Twist Kit to bring this one to life.
I started this page by anchoring a quartet of prints cut in the shape of triangles, to the days of the week, patterned, paper, base page, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  I then smudged the space behind where my photos would lie with white gesso.  Once that was dry, I did a little watercoloring and splattering with those sames shades of teal, mint, and pink, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  My photos were matted with white cardstock; set atop a stack of white, tissue paper, so as not to compete with the fabulous prints already in play, and a couple of gold, foil vellum scraps; and grounded with the "As free/sweet AS THE BEE" title.  The title itself was made from a Cameo-cut, from Coastal Cabana and Not Quite Navy cardstocks, "As free" and "AS THE"; a "sweet" die cut; and foiled, chipboard, alpha stickers...
and overlaps the cluster found along the bottom left edge of the photo strip.  The cluster consists of a floral die cut, popped up with foam tape and dressed up with white-embossed on vellum and punched flowers and a bumblebee, backed with a tangle of gold thread.  The bumblebee itself was stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a watercolor paper die cut; watercolored; glittered; and popped off the surface of the flower die cut with foam tape.
Another bee, prepared in the same way as described above, dresses up a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on a yellow, cut-apart label, "honey, i love you" phrase.  A couple more white-embossed and punched, as well as die cut, flowers and number of stamped, in Jet Black ink, phrases...
direct us to the journaling on the left, which reads, These photos are so YOU... always smiling, so carefree, searching for adventure, full of life, and absolutely bee-YOU-tiful!  1.27.13.
A yellow, gingham tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, was tucked under the combined top edge of the photos and dressed up with a smaller version of the bees described above, as well as an "A GOOD DAY", cut-apart phrase, popped up with foam tape.
A couple of additional, stamped, in Jet Black ink, phrases, as well as a trio of pink, star embellishments, scattered throughout the design, complete the look.
Here's your January Sketch #302 to get you off and running in the right direction.
Don't forget to share your pages, on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Pinterest, with the tag #CreatingWithSketches.  We'd also love for you to add them to the inlinkz found at the challenge link above.  Thanks, as always, for humbling us with a visit, Creative Scrappers friends!  Hugs!

  1. I love the loose threads alongside the machine stitching and thread-bows. Such variety and attention to detail!

  2. Love this. Really enjoyed your journaling that pulled it all together yet went with the bee theme. Your colors are great, as well.
